On April 20, 2022, the European Committee for Standardization published a new version of the standard EN 1888-1:2018+A1:2022 for child strollers to replace the old standard EN 1888-1:2018. The EU requires all member States to identify this latest standard as a national standard by 31 October 2022 and to repeal all standards that conflict with it.
The new version of the standard is mainly updated as follows:
(1) Articles 3.4 and 3.23 amend the definitions of fixed platforms and commutator handles;
(2) Clause 5.2.3 adds the use of small head modules;
(3) Article 6 amends the chemical testing requirements to require all parts within the accessible area to meet the migration element requirements of EN 71-3;
(4) Clause 8.3.5.1 revises the requirements in the testing of stroller folding devices;
(5) Clause 8.4 revises the requirements and methods for testing rope and rope loops;
(6) Clause 8.5.2.3 revises the requirements and methods of bite force testing;
(7) The new version removes the relevant requirement of clause 8.9.3 of the old version that the universal wheels of the stroller cannot touch each other;
(8) Clause 8.10.6 adds the setting method of adjustable handle, seat and reversing handle of stroller in fatigue test;
(9) Clauses 10.2.5 and 10.2.9 amend the requirements for recommended age labels and load-bearing labels.
